Serbia's Aleksandar Vučić announces presidential resignation

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has announced his intention to resign from office on Sunday evening, September 27, following his participation in the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York. He stated he will address the public around 8:00 PM to provide a formal explanation for his decision.

Vučić indicated that after his resignation, he intends to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections, scheduled for October 25, as a regular citizen, with potential ambitions to run for Prime Minister. Following his departure, Speaker of the Parliament Ana Brnabić is expected to serve as acting president until a new election is held.

During his time in New York, Vučić also discussed the future of the Serbian Oil Industry (NIS) and energy agreements. He noted that he expects to gain more clarity on the NIS situation following a planned discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding energy matters and Russian railway operations in Serbia.
