Alentejo hosts official 2026 Portuguese Gastronomy Day celebrations

On 27 July 2026 the Alentejo region of Portugal welcomed the official celebrations of Portuguese Gastronomy Day at the Convento de Nossa Senhora da Luz in Arronches. The event, organised by the Association of Hospitality, Restaurants and Similar Enterprises (AHRESP) with backing from the Regional Tourism Authority of Alentejo and Ribatejo and the Arronches municipal council, focused on the theme “The Pig: Tradition, Flavor and Future”.

José Santos, president of the Regional Tourism Authority, said the festival “highlights gastronomy as one of the most authentic expressions of our identity and a key tourist asset”. The programme included a morning session for restaurateurs, specialists and enthusiasts, followed by a pork‑butchering demonstration and tasting. Secretary of State for Tourism, Commerce and Services Pedro Machado presided over the closing ceremony, marking the 26th anniversary of gastronomy’s recognition as an immaterial cultural heritage of Portugal.
