Portuguese Gastronomy Day 2026

On 27 July 2026 the Alentejo region hosted Portugal’s official Gastronomy Day celebrations at the Convent of Nossa Senhora da Luz in Arronches. Organized by the Association of Hotels, Restaurants and Similar Establishments (AHRESP) with support from the Regional Tourism Authority of Alentejo and Ribatejo and the Arronches municipal council, the event centered on the theme “The Pig: Tradition, Flavor and Future”. Panels and tastings for chefs, food experts and the public took place in the morning, followed by a live pork‑butchering demonstration and a tasting of traditional snacks in the afternoon. The closing ceremony was chaired by State Secretary for Tourism, Commerce and Services Pedro Machado, marking the 26th anniversary of Portuguese gastronomy’s designation as intangible cultural heritage.
