Alentejo region celebrates World Music Day with concerts

Various musical events are being held in the Alentejo region of Portugal to celebrate World Music Day on October 1.

In Elvas, the 21st edition of the Music Month begins at the Auditório São Mateus. The programming includes the concert ‘Empatia – Reflexões Sonoras’ performed by the Orquestra Ibérica. Later in the month, on October 18, the Ensemble Ibérico will perform ‘Ecos da Planície’ alongside singer Luís Trigacheiro and the Youth Choir of the Academia de Música de Elvas.

In Évora, the EBORAE MVSICA Polyphonic Choir will perform a free concert at the Igreja do Salvador. Organized by the CCDR Alentejo, the performance features works from the choir’s latest CD and pieces from the Évora Cathedral Music School, representing Portuguese musical legacies from the 16th and 17th centuries. The ensemble is currently directed by maestro Emanuel Vieira.
