Alentejo wine harvest 2026 expected to rise 20% to 108 million liters

The Regional Wine Commission of Alentejo (CVRA) forecasts that the 2026 vintage will increase production by about 20%, reaching an estimated 108 million litres compared with 87 million litres in the previous year. The projection, developed with the University of Porto, cites favourable climate conditions throughout the growing cycle – balanced precipitation, a cold winter and no significant adverse weather – which support both higher quantity and quality.

The harvest is set to begin in early August, starting with white and sparkling grapes in the Baixo Alentejo before expanding through August and September. CVRA President Luís Sequeira highlighted the economic weight of the Alentejo region, which accounts for roughly 40% of Portugal's certified wine sales, and noted trials of new technologies such as a QR‑code traceability system and satellite‑image monitoring. The campaign also includes tourism initiatives like night‑time grape picking and tastings.
