Portugal 2026 wine harvest forecasts

In late July 2026, Portuguese wine authorities released outlooks for the upcoming vintage. The Comissão Vitivinícola Regional (CVR) of the Dão region projected a modest rise of up to 5 % in wine output compared with the 2025 campaign, citing a warm, rainy winter and a hot, moderately dry spring that promoted vine development and maintained water reserves. CVR president Manuel Pinheiro noted healthy vineyards and limited disease pressure, while researchers highlighted potential quality gains.

Two days later, the Regional Wine Commission of Alentejo (CVRA) forecast a much larger increase, estimating a 20 % boost to about 108 million litres, up from 87 million litres the previous year. The projection, developed with the University of Porto, attributed the growth to balanced precipitation, a cold winter and an absence of adverse weather. CVRA president Luís Sequeira emphasized the region’s economic importance—accounting for roughly 40 % of Portugal’s certified wine sales—and pointed to new technologies such as QR‑code traceability and satellite monitoring supporting the harvest.

Both regions attribute their optimistic forecasts to favorable climate conditions across the 2026 growing cycle, suggesting a potentially strong vintage for Portugal overall.
