Alessandria Cittadella: €29 million restoration agreement signed
The Piedmont Region, the Ministry of Culture, and the Municipality of Alessandria have approved a new six-year memorandum of understanding to restore and repurpose the historic Cittadella military complex. The project involves a total investment of approximately €29 million, with the Ministry of Culture contributing €24.6 million, the Piedmont Region €3.4 million, and the Municipality of Alessandria €1.5 million.
Key interventions include the architectural recovery and functional repurposing of the Palazzo del Governatore, the installation of modern technological infrastructure such as fiber optics and Wi-Fi, and the implementation of an advanced access control system. The plan also features the creation of a dedicated path for slow mobility within the perimeter, the restoration of historic buildings and roofs, and the adaptation of the Sant’Antonio Quarter to serve as the new headquarters for the Superintendency, including spaces for archives and restoration laboratories. Additionally, the project aims to enhance local green spaces and integrate the site into the ‘Le Vie del Territorio’ network to promote economic and touristic growth.
