Overview
In late October 2026, the Cittadella di Alessandria became a focal point for both cultural promotion and large-scale urban redevelopment. Initially, the site was highlighted through cultural events at Palazzo Cuttica, including the presentation of a bilingual volume titled ‘La Cittadella di Alessandria “Faro” di pace in Europa’ which sought to establish the citadel as a European cultural landmark.
Following these cultural initiatives, a major restoration agreement was formalized. The Piedmont Region, the Ministry of Culture, and the Municipality of Alessandria signed a six-year memorandum of understanding for a €29 million project to restore and repurpose the historic military complex. The investment, led by the Ministry of Culture with €24.6 million, includes architectural recovery of the Palazzo del Governatore, the installation of modern technological infrastructure, and the adaptation of the Sant’Antonio Quarter to house the Superintendency’s headquarters, archives, and laboratories.
