Alessandro Di Battista hospitalized in Rome after medical repatriation from Cuba

Alessandro Di Battista, former Member of Parliament for the Five Star Movement, has returned to Italy and is currently hospitalized at the Policlinico Gemelli in Rome. His medical journey began on August 28 in Cuba, where he suffered a sudden illness while conducting a journalistic reportage. Following an emergency neurosurgical procedure at the Hermanos Ameijeiras Hospital in Havana, he was medically repatriated to Italy.

The repatriation involved a 12-hour flight via the Luxembourg Air Ambulance 407G, which made intermediate stops in the Bahamas, Canada, and Luxembourg. Neurosurgeon Giulio Maira noted that surviving such a long medical flight is a positive sign. Di Battista arrived at Ciampino airport on Saturday, September 12, and was immediately transferred to the Gemelli hospital for further clinical assessments and continued care.

The Schierarsi association, of which Di Battista is vice president, has issued an appeal to the public, media, and supporters to respect his privacy. They have requested that individuals do not visit the hospital and urge discretion regarding the dissemination of any personal information, photos, or videos to ensure tranquility for Di Battista and his family during his recovery.
