Alessandro Di Battista to return to Italy from Cuba via medical flight

Alessandro Di Battista, a former member of the Movimento 5 Stelle, is scheduled to depart Cuba via medical aircraft on Friday, September 11, following a two-week hospitalization. Di Battista, 48, fell ill on August 28 while in Cuba for a reportage.

After an initial hospitalization in Santa Clara, he was transferred to the Hospital Clinico Quirurgico Hermanos Ameijeiras in Havana, where he underwent surgery. Although his return to Italy was originally planned for September 4, the transfer was delayed due to a deterioration in his condition.

The medical flight is expected to be a low-altitude, multi-stage journey lasting approximately 12 hours, with an arrival in Rome anticipated for Saturday afternoon. Di Battista is expected to continue his recovery at Policlinico Gemelli. Two specialists from the Italian hospital previously traveled to Cuba to assess his fitness for the flight.
