Alessandro Impagnatiello faces new trial over premeditation in Tramontano murder

The Supreme Court of Cassation has ordered a new trial for Alessandro Impagnatiello to re-evaluate the aggravating factor of premeditation in the murder of Giulia Tramontano. While previous rulings confirmed Impagnatiello’s life sentence for the May 2023 killing, they had not recognized premeditation.

The Supreme Court accepted an appeal from the Milan General Prosecutor's Office, noting evidence that the intent to kill may have emerged months before the crime. Key evidence includes the administration of rat poison beginning in December 2022, which increased in frequency during the month and a half leading up to the murder.

A new hearing is scheduled for October 26. The decision follows significant public outcry from the victim’s family, including her sister Chiara Tramontano, who had previously expressed indignation over the lack of recognition of premeditation in earlier judicial stages.
