Alex Bregman may return to Cubs lineup following facial fractures

Chicago Cubs third baseman Alex Bregman may return to the lineup before the end of the regular season despite suffering multiple facial fractures. The injury occurred during a game against the Cincinnati Reds when Bregman was struck in the face by a foul ball.

Cubs manager Craig Counsell stated that the team does not intend to place Bregman on the injured list. Bregman has already begun light workouts, including tracking pitches in a batting cage and using the weight room. His return depends on managing swelling and pain, but he has not been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Bregman has been a key contributor for the Cubs, maintaining an OPS over 1.000 in his last 61 games. While the team will utilize reserve infielder Pedro Ramirez and utility man Matt Shaw in the interim, the club aims to have their star third baseman available for the upcoming postseason and the Wild Card Round.
