Alexander Held's Death Prompts Continuation of ZDF's 'München Mord' Series
German actor Alexander Held died suddenly on 12 May 2026 at age 67 after a short illness. He was best known for playing Commissioner Ludwig Schaller in ZDF’s Saturday crime series “München Mord” and also appeared in the series “Stralsund”.
ZDF confirmed that “München Mord” will continue. Two unaired episodes featuring Held will be broadcast – the penultimate episode “Die Stadt, die es nicht gibt” on 22 August 2026 and a final episode slated for December 2026. Filming for two new episodes is scheduled for autumn 2026 with co‑stars Bernadette Heerwagen and Marcus Mittermeier, and the network indicated that the character of Ludwig Schaller will not be recast immediately. Held’s last filmed work for “Stralsund” will also be shown later in the year.
