Alexander Ovechkin returns to Washington Capitals for 22nd NHL season

Alexander Ovechkin has returned to the Washington Capitals to begin his 22nd NHL season. The Russian forward, who is the league's all-time leading goal scorer, signed a one-year contract with an average annual value of $4.25 million, consisting of a $1 million base salary, $4.75 million in performance bonuses, and a $3.25 million signing bonus.

Ovechkin, who will turn 41 on September 17, expressed his motivation to win another Stanley Cup and to continue breaking the NHL goal-scoring record, currently standing at 929 goals. The Capitals have also bolstered their roster with the additions of Alex Tuch, Jordan Kyrou, Boone Jenner, and defenseman Vincent Desharnais.

Following a season where the team failed to reach the playoffs, the Capitals are scheduled to begin training camp on September 17. General Manager Chris Patrick noted that Ovechkin's return brings unique energy and aura to the squad.
