Alexander Zverev addresses controversy following US Open win

Alexander Zverev has dismissed allegations of flirting following his US Open final victory over Ben Shelton on September 13. The controversy arose from a comment Zverev made during his trophy speech regarding Shelton’s partner, Trinity Rodman, noting her efforts to travel to New York to support Shelton after playing an NWSL match earlier that day.

Zverev clarified that his remarks were intended as a friendly gesture, stating, “Trinity Rodman? No, no, definitely not.” He emphasized his respect for Shelton and his family, criticizing those who interpreted his comments as having improper intentions.

With this win, Zverev secured his second Grand Slam title of 2026 and extended his head-to-head record against Shelton to 6-0. While a rematch was anticipated at the Laver Cup, Shelton withdrew from the event due to an injury sustained after the Davis Cup.
