Alexander Zverev leads Germany to Davis Cup Final 8

Alexander Zverev led the German tennis team to the Davis Cup Final 8 after a 3-1 victory over Croatia in Halle. Zverev secured the win by defeating Dino Prizmic in straight sets (6-2, 6-4), following an earlier victory over Matej Dodig. The German doubles pair, Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz, also contributed to the win by defeating Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic.

Despite the success, Zverev expressed strong criticism regarding the current Davis Cup format. He described the upcoming finals in Bologna as ‘absolute rubbish’ and ‘a show tournament,’ arguing that the competition loses its essence when played at a neutral venue. He advocated for a return to the traditional home-and-away format, emphasizing that the true spirit of the Davis Cup lies in the atmosphere created by playing in front of home crowds.

Germany joins other qualifying nations, including Great Britain and Spain, in the final tournament scheduled for November in Bologna, Italy.
