Alexander Zverev defends Grand Slam titles amid injury debates

Alexander Zverev is facing scrutiny following his successful 2026 season, which included Grand Slam titles at the French Open and the US Open. Critics have suggested his victories were aided by the absence of top rivals Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner due to injuries.

Mischa Zverev, Alexander’s brother and advisor, has defended the German player, arguing that the injuries to Alcaraz and Sinner stem from a lack of physical strength or improper recovery. He dismissed claims that the titles were unearned, noting that Alexander successfully returned from his own significant injury in 2023.

In a separate development, Alexander Zverev has criticized the current Davis Cup format, calling the centralized tournament structure in Bologna ‘absolute rubbish’ and advocating for a return to the traditional home-and-away format.

Ahead of the upcoming Laver Cup, Zverev and Alcaraz shared a lighthearted moment regarding Zverev’s lack of celebration during his US Open match point, which Zverev jokingly attributed to being ‘stupid’ and not fully realizing the score at the time.
