Alexander Zverev reflects on US Open win and score awareness
German tennis player Alexander Zverev recently reflected on his US Open victory, where he defeated Ben Shelton to claim his first title at the tournament. The win followed his success at Roland Garros, marking two Grand Slam titles in a short period.
During a conversation with Carlos Alcaraz at the Laver Cup, Zverev humorously addressed the moment he realized he had won the match. Zverev admitted he was unaware of the exact score during the final moments, stating, “Nothing was in my head. That is an advantage when you are stupid. When you are stupid, it helps.”
Zverev explained that he believed the score was 4:1, noting that had he known it was 5:2, he would have been extremely nervous. Alcaraz agreed with the sentiment, suggesting that not being preoccupied with the exact score in decisive moments can be a beneficial psychological advantage.
