Alexander Zverev leads ATP race following Grand Slam victories

Alexander Zverev is currently at the center of intense discussion in the tennis world following a highly successful 2026 season, which included Grand Slam victories at Roland Garros and the US Open. Carlos Alcaraz has publicly praised Zverev, stating, “Alexander Zverev is probably the best player in the world right now,” ahead of their participation in the Laver Cup as teammates for Team Europe.

The race for the year-end ATP number one ranking has narrowed to a contest between Jannik Sinner and Zverev. While Sinner currently holds the top spot in the ATP rankings, Zverev leads the seasonal Race due to his major titles. The competition is expected to intensify during the upcoming Asian swing and the ATP Finals in Turin.

Zverev's rise has also sparked debate regarding the injuries of his rivals, Alcaraz and Sinner. Mischa Zverev has defended his brother against claims that his success is merely a result of opponents' physical setbacks, attributing their absences to injury and suggesting that Alexander's return to peak form after a major 2022 injury is remarkable.

In a separate human-interest moment, Zverev gained viral attention after engaging in a brief rally with 101-year-old Dietrich Elsner during a training session in Halle.
