Alexander Zverev targets world number one ranking in Vienna

Tennis star Alexander Zverev is competing in the Erste Bank Open in Vienna with the opportunity to claim the ATP world number one ranking. Following a period of exhaustion after the Shanghai Masters, Zverev took a five-day break involving golf to recover mentally and physically. He is currently ranked second behind Jannik Sinner, who has ended his season due to knee issues.

If Zverev reaches the quarterfinals in Vienna, he is set to overtake Sinner to become the world number one. He would be the second German player to achieve this feat, following Boris Becker. Zverev's upcoming schedule also includes the Paris Masters, the ATP Finals in Turin, and the Davis Cup in Bologna.

Prior to his matches, Zverev and fellow top seed Carlos Alcaraz participated in a tour of the Vienna State Opera. The two players, who hold a combined nine Grand Slam titles, visited the opera's stage, central box, and tea salon as part of a cultural visit organized by tournament director Herwig Straka.
