Alexandre de Moraes expands visitation rights for Jair Bolsonaro

Supreme Federal Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes has authorized an expanded list of family members to visit former President Jair Bolsonaro, who is currently under house arrest in Brasília following a conviction related to an attempted coup d'état.

The decision follows a request from Bolsonaro’s defense team to allow more relatives to visit, specifically to facilitate the political campaign of former First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro. Michelle Bolsonaro is currently running for the Senate in the Federal District, and her legal team argued that existing visitation restrictions were hindering her ability to attend party events and campaign activities.

In addition to Bolsonaro’s wife and his sons, Carlos and Renan, the court has now authorized visits from his brother, Renato Bolsonaro, his sisters-in-law Geovanna Kathleen and Suyane Lanuze Lima, and his parents-in-law, Vicente de Paulo Reinaldo and Maisa Torres Antunes. These visits are permitted on Wednesdays and Saturdays during designated morning and afternoon time slots.
