Alexandre de Moraes faces protests in São Paulo ahead of STF vote

Protests involving ‘panelaço’—the banging of pots and pans—occurred in several neighborhoods of São Paulo, including Santa Cecília, Higienópolis, and Itaim-Bibi, on the night of September 14. Demonstrators used the noise to demand the resignation of Supreme Federal Court (STF) Minister Alexandre de Moraes.

The demonstrations took place hours before an extraordinary session scheduled for September 15. During this session, the STF plenary is expected to decide whether Moraes will be investigated regarding intercepted messages involving Daniel Vorcaro, the former owner of Banco Master.

Investigations suggest Moraes may have acted as an interlocutor for Vorcaro during inquiries into fraud at Banco Master. Additionally, reports indicate that Moraes’s wife maintained a multimillion-dollar commercial relationship with the former banker, with records suggesting the minister's direct involvement in the agreement.
