Alexandre de Moraes to discuss democracy at USP amid censorship allegations
Supreme Federal Court Minister Alexandre de Moraes is scheduled to participate in a debate regarding democracy and voting at the University of São Paulo (USP) this coming Friday. The event follows significant controversy surrounding a Federal Police operation authorized by Moraes against journalist Luís Pablo.
The operation, which included search and seizure warrants and the seizure of electronic equipment, was triggered by Pablo's reporting on the alleged irregular use of an official vehicle by relatives of Minister Flávio Dino. This action has drawn sharp criticism from press entities and opposition lawmakers, who have accused Moraes of censorship and violating press freedom and source confidentiality.
In response to these decisions, a new impeachment request against Moraes has been presented to the Chamber of Deputies, alleging that his actions have exceeded the legal limits of his role within the Supreme Federal Court.
