Alexandre de Moraes votes to indict blogger Oswaldo Eustáquio

Alexandre de Moraes, a justice of Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court (STF), has voted to accept a criminal complaint against blogger Oswaldo Eustáquio for criminal association. The vote, part of a virtual plenary session, follows a formal accusation by the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGR).

The PGR alleges that Eustáquio participated in actions aimed at undermining the legitimacy of the 2022 electoral system and the democratic rule of law. The indictment links his conduct to social media activity and involvement in demonstrations that preceded the January 8, 2023, attacks on government buildings in Brasília. Specifically, the prosecution claims Eustáquio disseminated messages to encourage opposition to the inauguration of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Eustáquio has expressed tranquility regarding the possibility of becoming a defendant, while simultaneously criticizing the judicial process. He alleged procedural irregularities and claimed the proceedings were a media fabrication occurring close to election dates. The remaining members of the court's First Chamber have until October 23 to cast their votes.
