Alexandre Knoploch's weapon permit suspended by TRE-RJ

The Regional Electoral Court of Rio de Janeiro (TRE-RJ) has suspended the weapon permit of state deputy and re-election candidate Alexandre Knoploch (PL) until October 5. The court also ordered Knoploch to surrender all firearms registered in his name to the Federal Police within 24 hours of notification.

The decision follows an incident in Tijuca where Knoploch allegedly engaged in a dispute with supporters of fellow candidate Flávio Serafini (PSOL). According to legal filings, Knoploch used pepper spray against bystanders, including elderly individuals, and brandished a firearm hidden under his clothing.

In addition to the weapon restrictions, the TRE-RJ has prohibited Knoploch from accessing Serafini’s campaign headquarters or contacting Serafini and Maria de Lourdes do Carmo through any means, including social media, until after the first round of elections. The court has also authorized a police inquiry into the matter, which will be supervised by the tribunal for an initial 30-day period. Knoploch has since posted a video claiming to have surrendered his weapons and characterized the court's rulings as 'injustices masked as justice'.
