Rio de Janeiro political confrontation involving AlexandreKn

Overview

On September 28, 2026, state deputy Alexandre Knoploch (PL-RJ) was involved in a confrontation with militants from the campaign of Flávio Serafini (PSol-RJ) in the Tijuca neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro. Video footage showed Knoploch placing his hand near a firearm during a verbal dispute. While Knoploch admitted to using pepper spray, he claimed he was reacting to being surrounded and maintained that the firearm was legal and not drawn. The Serafini campaign subsequently filed a police report and sought legal action to prevent Knoploch from approaching campaign members.

By October 2, 2026, the Regional Electoral Court of Rio de Janeiro (TRE-RJ) intervened, suspending Knoploch’s weapon permit and ordering him to surrender all registered firearms to the Federal Police within 24 hours. The court also prohibited Knoploch from contacting Serafini or accessing his campaign headquarters until after the first round of elections. Knoploch released a video stating he had surrendered his weapons and described the court’s rulings as ‘injustices masked as justice’.
