Alfonsine hosts civil protection training camp for youth

In Alfonsine, Italy, approximately twenty children aged 10 to 13 are participating in the “Anch’io sono la Protezione civile” (I am also Civil Protection) school camp. The initiative is part of a national project involving the Department of Civil Protection, regional authorities, and volunteer organizations.

During the five-day program, participants engage in practical exercises to understand regional emergency systems. A central component of the training involves a simulated red alert and hydraulic emergency at the Alfonsine municipal building. This simulation includes the activation of the Municipal Operations Center (Coc), where youth observe the management of delegations, the signing of ordinances, and the use of alert systems.

The program, organized by the Pubblica Assistenza Città delle Alfonsine in collaboration with the Unione dei Comuni della Bassa Romagna and regional agencies, aims to foster a culture of prevention and safety. Local officials, including Mayor Riccardo Graziani and Regional Undersecretary Manuela Rontini, have highlighted the importance of teaching young people how to recognize local risks and respond to extreme weather events, such as floods, which have impacted the Romagna region.
