Algarve invests 32 million euros in coastal protection

The Algarve region is investing approximately 32 million euros into various coastal protection and restoration operations. The initiative aims to address existing vulnerabilities and strengthen high-traffic areas against the effects of erosion.

Planned interventions will target several municipalities, including Loulé, Faro, Portimão, Lagos, Albufeira, and Quarteira. The scope of work varies by location, involving sand replenishment for certain beaches, cliff stabilization for others, and maintenance of existing coastal structures. Additionally, the program includes investments in the Ria Formosa to manage natural sand mobility and protect barrier islands. These efforts are part of a broader policy to preserve the coastline, addressing environmental concerns alongside the protection of residential areas and local infrastructure.
