Algeciras customs overhaul set to disrupt Ceuta's supply chain from July 1

The Spanish Customs and Special Tax Office in Algeciras will implement new customs procedures on 1 July that eliminate the differentiated treatment previously granted to goods destined for the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. The change integrates Ceuta‑bound cargo into the general export flow through the port, meaning trucks will share the same channels and controls as other shipments.

The Confederación de Empresarios de Ceuta (CECE) warns that the move could cause significant delays, higher logistical costs and reduced reliability for a wide range of products – from food and medicines to construction materials and parcels. Missed ferry slots, longer waiting times and possible withdrawal of operators from the route could cut services and raise prices for local businesses and consumers, potentially harming Ceuta’s economy.
