Algeciras Police to relocate canine unit due to noise complaints

The Spanish Ministry of the Interior is preparing to relocate the canine unit dogs from the Algeciras Police Station to an external kennel. This decision follows years of complaints from residents in the adjacent urban area regarding noise and other disturbances caused by the animals.

The Ministry intends to maintain the canine guide unit's operations in the Gibraltar area by contracting an external service for the care and custody of the dogs. The new facility must be located at least 10 kilometers away from the Algeciras station, based on the fastest driving route, to ensure the dogs can still be quickly deployed for police interventions while minimizing the impact on the residential environment.
