Algeciras police canine unit relocation

Overview

The Spanish Ministry of the Interior is planning to relocate the canine unit from the Algeciras Police Station to an external kennel. This decision follows long-term complaints from nearby residents regarding noise and other disturbances caused by the animals.

To maintain operational capacity in the Gibraltar area, the Ministry intends to contract an external service for the care and custody of the dogs. The new facility is required to be located at least 10 kilometers away from the Algeciras station via the fastest driving route to ensure the dogs can still be deployed quickly for police interventions while reducing the impact on the residential environment.
