Algeria advances port extension and desalination connection projects

Algeria is advancing several major infrastructure projects focused on maritime expansion and water security. Technical trials are currently underway at the Maritime Studies Laboratory (LEM) in Hydra regarding the extension of the Djen Djen port. These tests involve using three-dimensional physical models to evaluate the stability of maritime structures, wave behavior, and vessel stability at the quay to ensure the reliability of the proposed designs before construction begins.

Simultaneously, the Ministry of Hydraulics is overseeing the progress of downstream connection projects for new seawater desalination plants. These strategic projects aim to transport desalinated water to inland provinces through integrated pipeline systems that can reach distances of up to 250 km. Key projects under review include connection networks for desalination stations in Tlemcen, Chlef, and Mostaganem, which are designed to supply water to multiple provinces including Sidi Bel Abbès, Saïda, Naâma, Aïn Defla, Médéa, Tissemsilt, and Relizane.
