Algeria and Burkina Faso advance digital administration initiatives

Algeria and Burkina Faso are advancing national digital transformation initiatives to modernize public administration and improve citizen access to services.

In Algeria, Interior Minister Saïd Sayoud announced a focus on biometric documents and digital identity during a national colloquium. The initiative, aligned with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s strategic goals, aims to increase administrative efficiency, transparency, and security while protecting personal data. The project includes a partnership with the National Higher School of Artificial Intelligence to develop secure biometric identification systems.

In Burkina Faso, Minister of Digital Transition Dr. Aminata Zerbo/Sabané announced an investment of 10 billion CFA francs to establish ‘Zama Tchè’ (Maisons du citoyen). The government aims to equip all 351 communes with these centers by 2030. These hubs will function as modern postal agencies offering banking and digital administrative services, specifically designed to assist rural populations and those with limited digital literacy in accessing online government services.
