Algeria and Mali accelerate diplomatic rapprochement
Algeria and Mali are accelerating a diplomatic rapprochement following a period of significant tension. Malian Prime Minister Abdoulaye Maïga stated there is now a "convergence of views" between Malian Transition President Assimi Goïta and Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune regarding state sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs.
Following the restoration of diplomatic ties on July 10, which included the return of ambassadors and the reopening of airspace, the two nations are working to revitalize bilateral cooperation. To solidify this reconciliation, Algerian Prime Minister Sifi Ghrib has extended an official invitation to General Maïga for a working visit to Algeria.
The discussions between the two governments have focused on transforming the Sahel into a space for cooperation, stability, and development. Both leaders emphasized the need to secure the region against terrorism and move past previous diplomatic divergences through dialogue and mutual respect.
