Algeria and Senegal send officials to Doha for former Qatari emir Sheikh Hamad’s funeral
Former Qatari emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who ruled from 1995 until 2013 and was credited with transforming Qatar’s economy and international profile, died at age 74. His death was announced by the Qatari Emir’s Diwan and a state funeral was scheduled in Doha.
Algeria dispatched a senior delegation led by President of the Council of the Nation Azzouz Nasri, accompanied by Interior Minister Saïd Sayoud, senior defence officials and other senior officials, to present condolences to Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on behalf of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye travelled from Dakar to Doha to join the mourning ceremonies, underscoring the long‑standing diplomatic and economic ties between Senegal and Qatar.
