Algeria establishes High Council for scientific diaspora

Algeria has established the High Council of the National Scientific Community Abroad to facilitate knowledge and technology transfer between expatriate scientists and local academic institutions. The council aims to create bridges between Algerian experts living abroad and researchers within national universities and laboratories.

Professor Malika Aïd-Boudries, a Harvard researcher and council member, emphasized a multidisciplinary approach where members will work within their specific fields of expertise through collaborative sub-committees. The initiative seeks to leverage the vast potential of the Algerian diaspora to benefit local students and researchers with international scientific experiences.

The council, which held its constitutive meeting in Algiers with an initial core of 39 members, was recently received by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. Coordinator Elias Zerhouni noted that this group represents only a small portion of the thousands of Algerian scientists worldwide, serving as a strategic force to build networks and long-term cooperation traditions for the country.
