Algeria establishment of scientific diaspora council

Overview

Algeria has established the High Council of the National Scientific Community Abroad to foster institutional partnerships between the country and its expatriate scientists. The initiative aims to facilitate knowledge and technology transfer to support national development, modernization, and the knowledge economy.

Coordinated by Professor Elias Zerhouni, the council includes prominent experts in fields such as biomedical engineering, artificial intelligence, and materials science. The body is tasked with evaluating major technological projects and providing recommendations directly to the Presidency.

While initial reports indicated a core group of approximately 27 to 30 members, subsequent details noted the council held its constitutive meeting in Algiers with 39 members. The council intends to utilize multidisciplinary sub-committees to create bridges between international experts and local universities, researchers, and students.
