Algeria expands energy cooperation with Chad and Azerbaijan

Algeria is expanding its energy sector cooperation through bilateral initiatives with Chad and Azerbaijan.

The Algerian Hydrocarbon Regulatory Authority (ARH) has dispatched an expert delegation to Chad for a mission scheduled from September 10 to 19. This mission follows a memorandum of understanding signed in Algiers in April and aims to strengthen technical expertise in hydrocarbon regulation, safety, risk management, and environmental control. The program includes digital transformation support and capacity building for Chadian authorities.

Separately, Algerian State Minister for Hydrocarbons Mohamed Arkab and Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov held a videoconference to advance strategic energy partnerships. Discussions focused on oil and gas field development, refining, and petrochemicals. A key project involves supplying light crude oil from Azerbaijan to the Sonatrach Augusta refinery in Sicily. This cooperation builds upon a 2022 memorandum between Sonatrach and Azerbaijan's SOCAR, ratified by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune in May 2026.
