Algeria energy and environmental cooperation

Overview

Algeria has initiated several strategic energy and environmental developments involving regional and international partners. Initially, Algerian Energy Minister Mourad Adjal led meetings to set 2027 budgetary orientations focused on energy security, infrastructure, and the energy transition. Concurrently, Chadian Minister Hassan Bakhit Djamous held discussions regarding international environmental conventions and the importance of aligning national interests during international negotiations.

Following these orientations, Algeria expanded its practical cooperation with Chad. The Algerian Hydrocarbon Regulatory Authority (ARH) dispatched an expert delegation to Chad to provide technical expertise in hydrocarbon regulation, safety, risk management, and digital transformation.

Additionally, Algeria has strengthened energy ties with Azerbaijan. Through videoconferences between Algerian and Azerbaijani energy ministers, both nations discussed oil and gas field development and petrochemicals. This includes a project to supply light crude oil from Azerbaijan to the Sonatrach Augusta refinery in Sicily, building upon previous agreements between Sonatrach and Azerbaijan’s SOCAR.
