Algeria implements new housing, administrative, and market regulations

The Algerian government is rolling out several major regulatory and infrastructure initiatives. In the housing sector, Minister of Habitat Tarek Belaribi announced that central heating will now be a mandatory standard for all new residential programs, including social housing, to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning deaths.

Administratively, the Ministry of Interior is advancing a national addressing system. Amel Djouama reported that 1.5 million unified, geolocatable addresses have been recorded across 12 wilayas, with a goal to cover all 69 wilayas by 2030 to facilitate digital transformation and emergency services.

Regarding economic regulation, Minister of Commerce Amal Abdellatif met with food producers to address rising food prices, urging them to avoid unjustified increases. Simultaneously, the consumer protection organization Himayatec has called for stricter inspections of fruit and vegetable displays to ensure non-edible parts, such as stems and leaves, are not included in the sale weight.

Additionally, Interior Minister Saïd Sayoud has ordered the creation of a new information system to monitor the execution of local development projects and ensure they are completed within set deadlines.
