Algeria Leads AU Peace and Security Council, Reaffirms Commitment to African Stability

Algeria assumed the rotating presidency of the African Union’s Peace and Security Council (CPS) for August, with Ambassador Mohamed Khaled, also Algeria’s permanent representative to the AU, describing the mandate as a “great responsibility.” He said the presidency would be used to reaffirm Algeria’s dedication to peace and security across the continent, in line with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s foreign‑policy principles.

Algeria’s six‑month programme focuses on three pillars: a comprehensive assessment of Africa’s peace and security situation, direct engagement on ongoing crises both within the CPS and on the ground, and the promotion of African‑led solutions. The plan emphasizes collective responsibility, solidarity and integrated action to strengthen the Council’s capacity to address the continent’s growing security challenges.
