Algeria positions itself as key energy partner at NAPEC
At the opening of the 14th edition of the North Africa Energy & Hydrogen Conference (NAPEC) in Oran, Algeria, State Minister for Hydrocarbons Mohamed Arkab emphasized the enduring importance of natural gas in the global energy mix. He stated that natural gas will continue to play a vital role by providing flexibility to energy systems and supporting industrial activity.
Arkab highlighted that international forecasts predict sustained demand for oil and gas over the coming decades, necessitating continued investment in the hydrocarbon sector. He advocated for a balanced approach to the energy transition, where fossil fuels and clean energies complement one another to meet growing demand while improving energy efficiency and reducing emissions. Algeria aims to position itself as a reliable energy partner for Europe and Africa through initiatives such as the Trans-Saharan gas pipeline and upcoming 2026 tenders.
