Algeria sets 2026 deadline to reactivate 139 recovered industrial units

The Algerian government has set a deadline of December 31, 2026, to complete the recovery and reactivation of 139 industrial units seized in corruption cases. Minister of Industry Yahia Bachir announced during a visit to Annaba that the state aims to reintegrate these assets into the national economy to preserve production capacities and maintain employment.

Authorities have a five-month window to finalize remaining recovery operations and reallocate them to productive economic activities. A significant portion of the assets has already been recovered and integrated into the public sector. Notable examples include the Safia cooking oil factory, now under the public group Agrodiv, and the Khemis El-Khechna sugar refinery, transferred to the public group Madar.

To manage this process, the state has established a specialized agency and a commission dedicated to the reallocation of these assets, prioritizing public companies capable of a rapid restart. This initiative is a key priority for the current five-year presidential term, as emphasized by Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb.
