Algeria strengthens hydrocarbon partnerships with Bangladesh and Niger
Algeria has signed a memorandum of understanding with Bangladesh to expand cooperation in the hydrocarbon sector. The agreement, signed in Algiers by Algerian Minister of Hydrocarbons Mohamed Arkab and Bangladeshi Minister of Energy Iqbal Hassan Mahmood, establishes a framework for the entire hydrocarbon value chain. Key areas of focus include oil and gas exploration and production, infrastructure development for transport, processing, and storage, and commercialization opportunities. The partnership also explores the supply of crude oil, refined petroleum products, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), liquefied natural gas (LNG), and fertilizers such as urea to the Bangladeshi market.
Separately, Algeria provided technical assistance to Niger following an incident at the ‘Gomri W-8’ oil well in the Agadem petroleum area. A technical mission comprising experts from the Algerian Ministry of Hydrocarbons, the Hydrocarbons Regulatory Authority (ARH), and Sonatrach operated in Niger from October 12 to 19. The mission worked with Nigerien officials to manage the incident and mitigate environmental impacts. Nigerien President Abdourahamane Tiani expressed gratitude to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for the rapid response and technical support.
