Algerian delegation calls for universal human rights at IPU conference

At the 12th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) World Conference of Young Parliamentarians in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, the Algerian parliamentary delegation called for the non-selective application of international human rights and humanitarian law. The conference, themed ‘Restoring human rights, justice and dignity for all in times of crisis’, focused on the protection of youth during global instabilities.

Issam Nechma, president of the El Moustakbal parliamentary group within the Council of the Nation, emphasized that human dignity cannot be discussed without addressing the suffering of Palestinian youth, particularly in Gaza. He characterized the targeting of young people during conflicts as a ‘studied criminal tendency’ that undermines the future of societies and their ability to build peace.

In addition to the situation in Gaza, the delegation addressed the Sahel region, advocating for a security approach that combines military cooperation with the deep and lasting resolution of underlying conflicts.
