Algerian Parliament appoints 12 diaspora deputies after July 2 elections

Following the July 2, 2026 legislative elections, Algeria's new Assemblée Populaire Nationale was installed on July 28. Of the 12 seats reserved for Algerian citizens abroad, the FLN secured five, while Front El Moustakbal and the RND each won two, and independents claimed the remaining three. The deputies represent eight worldwide zones: Europe (France, United Kingdom, Italy), Africa (including Ivory Coast), the Americas (Canada), and Asia‑Oceania (Qatar). Notable representatives include Djelloul Beddari (FLN) for Paris‑Île‑de‑France, Nouar Boukhars (Front El Moustakbal) for northern France, Abdelmalek Cherifi (FLN) for the Maghreb‑Africa zone, Abdenebi Dadou (FLN) and Mehdi Houhou (independent) for North‑South America from Montreal, Mouna Laadjal (El Binaa) for Asia‑Oceania from Doha, and Fares Rahmani (Front El Moustakbal) for Northern Europe from London.

National turnout was 21.24 % of 23.87 million registered voters, while the diaspora recorded a 10.75 % participation rate among 854,285 eligible voters. The constitutional court annulled results in several Algerian constituencies for irregularities, but the diaspora lists were confirmed.
