Algeria's constitutional court confirms ruling coalition's parliamentary majority

Algeria's Constitutional Court published the final results of the July 2 parliamentary elections, confirming an absolute majority for parties supporting President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The National Liberation Front (FLN) secured 91 seats, the National Democratic Rally (RND) 74 seats and the Future Front 56 seats, giving the presidential bloc a total of 221 seats in the 407‑seat lower house, well above the 204‑seat threshold.

The court reviewed 320 appeals and accepted 43, resulting in only minor adjustments – the FLN and RND each gained one seat while the Future Front lost three. Voter turnout was low at 21.4%, with about one million votes annulled. Authorities detained several candidates and election‑center officials on accusations of fraud and ballot tampering.

With the majority secured, President Tebboune is positioned to appoint a prime minister and form a government that can pass legislation without significant parliamentary opposition.
