Alghero establishes animal welfare desk for pets

The municipal administration of Alghero has established the ‘Amici degli Animali’ (Friends of Animals) desk to support the welfare of dogs and cats. The initiative aims to provide operational, assistance, and bureaucratic support to citizens, helping them manage domestic animals and navigate legal requirements.

With approximately 10,000 registered dogs and several recognized feline colonies in the city, the service will offer guidance on mandatory vaccinations, microchipping, and registration in the animal registry. The desk will also assist residents with paperwork, legal rights and duties for pet owners, and reporting procedures.

Located at the ‘Martin Luther King’ gardens complex, the service intends to promote civic awareness regarding public spaces and hygiene, specifically concerning the management of canine waste. The project also includes collaboration with local associations and the availability of a digital archive for downloadable documents.
