Alghero political opposition criticizes municipal debt to SECAL

The Fratelli d'Italia coordination in Alghero has accused Mayor Cacciotto and Councilor Daga of evading responsibility regarding accumulated debts owed to the municipal company SECAL. Local political leaders Mario Conoci and Alessandro Cocco claim the administration has failed to pay invoices for the third time in two years, leading to delays in worker salaries.

According to the opposition, the municipality accumulated 300,000 euros in unpaid invoices in November 2024, followed by another 300,000 euros in September 2025. As of September 7, 2026, workers were reportedly still awaiting payment. Cocco described the situation not as an accident, but as a deliberate method. Conoci further suggested that the administration may be intentionally weakening SECAL to justify future outsourcing or privatization.
