Alhambra launches first complete digital twin of a World Heritage site

The Junta de Andalucía has unveiled a digital twin of the Alhambra, described as the first complete digital replica of a World Heritage site. This intelligent virtual model utilizes artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), and real-time data analysis to manage, conserve, and promote the Nasrid monument.

Developed under the Alhambra Living Lab project, the platform facilitates structural diagnostics and the evaluation of emergency plans. The system has already been deployed to monitor the monument's architectural behavior during a recent seismic swarm in the province of Granada, allowing authorities to test emergency protocols against real-time technical data.

The initiative is a collaborative effort involving the Digital Agency of Andalusia, the Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife, the University of Granada, and the technology company Libelium. The project represents an investment exceeding 2.3 million euros, with 75% of the funding provided by the European Union’s Next Generation funds through the Spain Living Lab project.
